Climate Change Agreement In Nigeria

„The phenomenon of climate change is everyone`s business, and the measures taken to deal with its effects have become much more critical than before.“ Nigeria`s climate promises did not indicate how much help it needed to reach the top of its target. Recently, UNDP published the NDC Global Outlook Report: The Heat Is On: Taking Stock of Global Climate Ambition and the UNDP Climate Promise to help 100 countries strengthen their NDCs. The report provides a comprehensive overview of how nations are stepping up the fight against climate change and how they are linking this policy to the SDGs. According to the report, nearly half of the world, with 75 nations accounting for 37% of emissions, is determined to do the right thing right now. President Mohammadu Buhari`s plan to tackle climate change, as outlined at the UN General Assembly summit, is timely, ambitious and indispensable. It would foster a carbon-intensive, high-growth economic development trajectory and create a climate-resilient Nigeria. Africa, especially Nigeria, is the most affected by the effects of climate change, which range from floods to droughts to heat waves that result in loss of life and livelihoods. Across the country, changes in temperature and rainfall have strongly influenced agriculture – a sector that represents a major source of income for 70% of the Nigerian population. „The continued development of a national serial communication document is an obligation for all parties to the UNFCCC, which aims to communicate to the Convention and the international community the national list of greenhouse sources and gases, options for mitigation, vulnerability, adaptation and climate change mitigation analysis.

It also serves as a reference for the future review of the country`s greenhouse gas inventory. Nigeria prepared its initial and second national communications and submitted them to the UNFCCC in accordance with its reporting obligation. The activities are moving in the direction of completing the third national top-gang communication,“ Dr. Tarfa said. Around the world, some studies have linked climate-related disasters to outbreaks of violence. However, it remains a highly competitive scientific field – and other researchers have argued that there can be no „effect to subdue them all“ when it comes to what triggers conflict. . . .
